No camera. No lights. No stage. Just you acting and Heidi coaching. In person.
Work, craft, and practice the art that matters to you. In this masterclass-style workshop, a few actors work scenes on their feet while everyone else observes. Bring your curiosity for growing and collaborating. Immerse yourself in the good work of acting. Writers, directors, actors, and all storytellers invited to join as observers!
Actors will be on their feet working a scene (2 script pages max), and I will get my hands in and coach the shape of the scene and the performances. Our observer seats will be filled with writers, directors, and fellow actors. I am always interested in cultivating the exchange of ideas and building our artistic communities.
We will not use a traditional audition set-up. Instead, we will work in space. There may be opportunity to capture some process work on the actor’s phone, if requested. But the main purpose is to work the moments, the connections, and the analysis.
There is no particular technique being used—just instincts and tools that I have developed in over 30 years of directing and coaching. Your own instincts and personal approaches will come to light as well!
If you sign up for a working seat, you will be asked to come prepared by choosing a scene. Actors, here are your options for how to use your working seat:
1) Work your scene like an audition with a reader.
2) Sign up with another actor to be scene partners.
*For paired scenes, each actor will sign up for a working seat ($150 each). We encourage you to claim your seat if you are available and interested. However, if you’d like to inquire first about the availability of two seats, please email: team@heidimarshall.com
You can work a scene that you have prepared thoroughly, or be in the most raw form and act a scene in its early stages of preparation. You and those observing will learn in all instances.
All scenes must be chosen by the actor. This actually informs me on what you are chasing after as an artist!
I can’t wait for creatives to MIX! Actors, writers, directors, casting directors too—this class is for everyone involved in storytelling.
Do you crave working hard as an actor? Watching other actors striving to do excellent work? A safe supported space to be coached? Join us in this unique workshop. Actors in the working seat should have previous training or professional experience. Email team@heidimarshall.com if you’re unsure.

Dear Actors, Writers, and Directors,
I am thrilled to be offering an opportunity for actors to simply work. Get coached or directed on your work—you can choose what type of feedback you need.
I observe that artists thrive when we are in creative spaces that get the fire alive in our belly! When we are surrounded by other artists who are eager to strive towards creativity, it enlivens our own pursuits. I know that when I teach, I get inspired to return to the challenges of directing my own projects.
Let’s circle up around you! (Literally, this class will be held in the round!)

I really enjoyed the class; i love watching other people, and have historically been able to contextualize my own learning the most through others’ work; that’s a bit contradictory to my sentiment of desiring 1-on-1’s, but it’s all true!
Full disclosure — please note that we do not guarantee that actors in our online or in-person acting classes will be hired for any project that we might direct, produce, or cast. We teach and coach because we enjoy supporting and nurturing actors as you develop your personal process for auditioning, working and creating your own work.
