Artist Rights

The conversations of equal rights are in the air, and thriving.

To the person sharing this planet with me: What do you care about?  What are you willing to defend?

To the artist-actor in this industry with me:  What do you care about?  What are you willing to defend?

We can learn from the Activists about being an Artist who fights for self-expression and opportunities.

I see people fighting for their rights (globally) and I always admire the persistence and passion of individuals who keep getting back up in the ring. Why do they keep getting back up despite the punches?  Because they have found something in their lives that they are passionate enough about to defend against all odds.

If you need clean water for your village, you fight for it.  If you need food/education/medical support for a child, you fight for it.  If you believe someone is innocent, you fight for them.

If you believe in it, you will fight for it.

We artists are strong, like those fighting for the rights of humanity.

The artist is a resilient species.
The artist is a passionate species.
The artist faces the odds.

Get in touch with your artist spirit like the fighter that you are.

TOP TIPS FOR FIGHTING FOR YOUR ARTIST RIGHTS

1. Open up yourself to what you care about.

I wonder, do you wear your heart on your sleeve in your work or are you protecting it because it’s been a hard road?  Are you investing your whole self into your work, to each audition that lasts only a few minutes?  Would it be worth it to you to invest your time and money into your craft or your presentation?  Are you willing to take risky moves for what you believe in?

2. Move forward by joining the Movement.

When I’m stuck, I mean really stuck like I can’t imagine how my dream could be achieved, I have one way out of the mud pit.  I look at the bigger picture.  On my own films, I think about the lives I will touch with the story and the lives I will touch by creating an opportunity for actors and crew to work on something really meaningful.

3. Be loud and clear to your audience.

Defend your rights.  The artist-actor has something important to say.  Look at me over here!  I can do that!  I can break your idea of a stereotype! I have range that you can’t even imagine!  I will give you a revelation on your script!  I will inspire you to cast around me!

Think of your art as a Movement.

You are as powerful as you want to be. It is there inside of you to be harnessed and generated.
